Every diamond scanned and graded in Sarine Labs is assigned a unique report number, which corresponds to the diamond’s digital data file.
The 4Cs have worked faithfully and tirelessly for the diamond industry, giving three generations of diamond buyers a solid and reliable yardstick for diamond grading. In a changing marketplace driven by technology and the desire for a more profound reason to purchase, it’s time to find a new approach to enhance the 4Cs. Retailers need to give the current generation of consumers a deeper, up-to-date experience of the diamond’s unique character. And the answer is light performance.
With the development of science-based measurement of the variables that make up the diamond’s interaction with light, it is now possible to give a light performance grade based on an objective standard of light beauty. New approaches to light performance measurement have created light performance grading that is accurate, reliable and quantifiable.
Light performance grading provides an objective scientific understanding of a diamond’s beauty. Sarine’s R&D team created precise light performance algorithms based on studies of thousands of diamonds from all over the world. Via this in-depth optical research, Sarine determined the parameters and values that form the foundation of the Sarine Light™ grading methodology.
Sarine’s light performance grading is a combination of 4 measurements of the diamond’s interactions with light – Brilliance, Sparkle, Fire & Light Symmetry.
Created by the diamond’s cut, Brilliance determines how the light that enters the diamond is reflected back to the viewer.
The diamond’s Sparkle reflects the quality of the cut, a direct result of the skill and craftsmanship of the professional diamond cutter.
Diamonds with intense Fire are appreciated for their fascinating play of color and beauty at different angles.
A well-cut diamond features optimal proportions for equal light distribution and stronger Light Symmetry.
Working together, light performance and the 4Cs are a powerful, modern approach to diamond evaluation. When the light performance grade and the 4C evaluation result are combined, they hold an incredibly rich story of the diamond that can be passed on to the consumer.
